Jovly Vouvray is produced by Chateau Moncontour, one of the oldest wineries in the Loire Valley, with a history dating back to the 10th century when we know that caves were excavated in the cliffs along the river to store the wine. The chateau itself dates from the end of the 15th century and is said to have been built by Charles VII, on the ruins of a fortification belonging to Guillaume de St. Maure, in order to keep his mistress, Agnes Sorel, within easy reach.
Today it is owned and run by the father/son team of Gilles and Christian Feray. This Vouvray comes from two estates, Chateau Moncontour and Domaine de Vaugondy, made of 100% Chenin Blanc. Like its counterpart at Chateau Moncontour, this wine has a pale yellow colour with a floral and green apple bouquet that entices you with good fruit and freshness.
