Yannick Amirault is today at the forefront of producers in the Appellation of Bourgueil. His story began in 1977 when at the age of 22 he took control of the family vineyards from his grandfather. At this stage the vineyards were scattered across 3.4 hectares of the Bourgueil and St Nicolas de Bourgueil appellations. Not satisfied with mediocrity Yannick pushed the Domaine forward, stopping the use of fertilizers in 1983, the introduction of leaf plucking in 1989, a more organic approach from 1992 with interplanting of grass and the elimination of herbicides from 1997. The grapes are hand harvested, the ferment is with indigenous yeasts, and the wines bottled unfiltered. Not surprisingly the quality here is extremely high.
