From the very first vintage under the Soufrandiere label in 2000 they have practiced both organic and biodynamic methods, leading to official certification for the wines. The brothers, both keen fly fishermen, had seen the damage and pollution done to the rivers and streams of France by the overuse of agricultural chemicals and were determined to respect the environment. In 2001 they also started a small negociant business under the name Bret Brothers to highlight the potential of the varied terroirs of the Macon.
They only purchase fruit they pick themselves and are encouraging the growers towards organic and biodynamic methods, approximately a third of this production is now organic.
